Plantar Fasciitis – Feet Pain.
Plantar Fasciitis, heel pain and tight calf muscles are symptoms our team at Brisbane Posture and Performance Chiropractic deal with on a regular basis. Plantar Fasciitis can result in severe pains in the foot arch or heel, often worse as you take your first steps in the morning. The pain develops due to extreme tightness and inflammation of the plantar fascia musculature of the foot.
In our experience poor posture resulting in an increased demand on the feet and calf muscles to hold your body in an upright position can be one of the causes of this often chronic and debilitating condition. In severe cases bone spurs may develop on the calcaneus (heel bone) due to the tension on the muscular insertion to this bone.
This condition is more common in females than in males and you are at a higher risk if overweight or working on your feet for several hrs a day. The following also increase your likelihood of developing plantar fasciitis:
– Poor footwear
– Flat fee or high arches
– Tight calf muscles/Achilles
Tips to prevent plantar fasciitis include ensuring your calf muscles are well stretched prior to activity and that you have warmed up adequately. Wearing adequate foot wear and ensuring you condition your body well prior to entering into new fitness and sports activities will also reduce your likelihood of plantar fasciitis.
Management of the symptoms involved in plantar fasciitis include:
– Ice and strapping of inflamed area
– Stretching and rolling out of calf and plantar fascia muscles.
– Chiropractic adjustments
– Muscles release and massage techniques.
